Past Research Activities
The experimental fishes that have been used in research at the Station are fathead
minnow (Pimephales promelas), rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), chinook
salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha), coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch),
Arctic grayling (Thymallus arcticus), Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), three endangered
fishes (Colorado pikeminnow, Ptychocheilus lucius); razorback sucker, Xyrauchen
texanus; and bonytail, Gila elegans) and one threatened fish (flannelmouth
sucker, Catostomus latipinnis)) from the Colorado River basin, and one
endangered fish (Rio Grande silvery minnow, Hybognathus amarus) from the Rio
Grande. Studies have also been conducted with tiger salamander (Ambystoma
tigrinum).
The experimental aquatic invertebrates that have been used in research at the Station are water fleas (Daphnia magna and Ceriodaphnia
dubia), midge (Chironomus riparius), and an amphipod (Hyalella azteca); some tests have
also been conducted with leeches (Nephelopsis obscura), snails (Stagnicola
elodes), and green algae (Selenastrum capricornutum).
