Description:
Abstract:
All acute toxicity data developed by the USGS Columbia Environmental Research Center (CERC) previously known as: Environmental and Contaminants Research Center, Biological Resources Division, USGS since 1965 were evaluated for quality, and a database was established for 4,901 tests with 410 chemicals (mainly pesticides) and 66 species of aquatic animals.
Purpose:
Acute toxicity tests are commonly used to determine a lethal concentration that will kill 50% of the test population for a given time. For example, 24, 48 or 96 hours of exposure. The value calculated is called a LC50 (a statistically or graphically estimated dose that is expected to be lethal to 50% of a group of organisms under specific conditions). An EC50 (effect concentration) is used in this data base for reporting the invertebrate response. The EC50 was used for these tests because mortality could not be determined with a 5 second observation and no movement was detected.
Supplemental_Information:
This database consist of two files. The ID file contains information about the chemicals tested. The TOTAL file contains individual test results. ALL TEST RESULTS ARE BASED ON NOMINAL CONCENTRATIONS.

Estimated to be better than 95%. The accuracy assessment is complete as of publication. Accuracy was estimated by multiple individuals reviewing input values, and executing quality assurance measures via statistical analysis, graphic representation and testing for outliers for different fields.
