The International Creosoting State Superfund site, a wood treatment facility from 1898 through 1973, is located near Beaumont, Jefferson County, Texas. This site was added to the State Superfund list in March 1989. Contaminants found on the 14.7 acre site included arsenic, chromium, lead, creosote constituents, semi-volatiles, and volatile organic compounds. The site is adjacent to Brakes Bayou, an important estuary for migratory birds and fish, which provides other wetland benefits as well. The Trustees reached settlement to resolve natural resource damages through the acquisition of a preservation property and Trustee administrative costs at the site.

In 2002 the Trustees issued a final RP/EA identifying the acquisition and preservation of at least 140 acres of bottomland hardwoods in the Lower Neches River area as restoration for injuries to natural resources. In 2004 the Trustees acquired 150 acres acreage along the Lower Neches River that has now been incorporated into the Big Thicket Preserve.
