Case Description

The AT&SF Clovis Superfuпd Site is а 140 acre site located approximately one mile south of the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company (BNSF) railroad yard in Clovis, New Mexico. Santa Fe Lake, а 40 acre playa located on BNSF property, was used for wastewater discharge from the yard and contained heavy metals, total petroleum hydrocarbons and cyanide. Beginning in the early 1900’s, wastewater from the AT&SF Clovis site containing heavy metals, total petroleum hydrocarbons and cyanide was discharged into Santa Fe Lake. Santa Fe Lake was consequently added to the NPL in 1983 as AT&SF Clovis Superfuпd Site. The State of New Mexico and Department of the Interior - U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are trustees for natural resources injured by releases at the site.
