Project Description
The Fox River NRDA Trustees supported approximately 50% of the acquisition of 4.54 acres of land on the shoreline of the Green Bay, which was officially purchased by Brown County on October 27, 2020. Many agencies, organizations, and local stakeholders have invested in this initiative, such as the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Brown County, the Green Bay Visitor’s Bureau, and numerous local fish and waterfowl conservation clubs. Now in ownership of Brown County, the process for transforming this property into a boat launch and safe harbor for the public to access the Bay of Green Bay is underway. Boaters and anglers say this was potentially the last conducive site left on the Bay for providing this type of public access as the Bay Shore has been increasingly built up. Ancillary benefits to having the County own and restore this property include integrating appropriate storm water management to reduce runoff and residential flooding, as well as shoreline restoration opportunities that will benefit numerous fish species, including Walleye. With the purchase finalized, local community members and fishing enthusiasts will eagerly engage in development planning throughout 2021.
