Project Description

Following a 30-day public comment period, a restoration project was approved in July 2025 to address injuries from the spill. Located one mile downstream of the spill site, the project will restore 1,400 linear feet of North St. Vrain Creek across 8.5 acres of floodplain. It will reconnect the floodplain and incorporate side channels, wetlands, and pools to enhance aquatic habitat for fish and macroinvertebrates, while also benefiting riparian species and protecting water resources for downstream communities. With a total budget of $1,040,010, the project is a collaborative effort between the Natural Resource Trustees and The Watershed Center, which will lead implementation. It is funded in part by the $263,538 NRDAR settlement, with an additional $790,010 in match funding secured by The Watershed Center. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2026, with completion anticipated in 2027.
