Project Description

The Chemical Leaman Tank Lines Trustees provided funding to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to purchase a conservation easement on the 254.3 acre Davis property in Pennsville, NJ. Located off Fort Mott Road, the property abuts the Supawna Meadows National Wildllife Refuge (SMNWR), and includes former agricultural fields, upland forests, freshwater wetlands along several unnamed tributaries, and extensive brackish tidal marshes. The easement, covering 252.6 acres of the property, contains permanent restrictions on the use or development of the land in order to protect its conservation values. The refuge will enforce and monitor the terms of the conservation easement, including controlling invasive species, conducting annual breeding bird surveys, and managing the old fields as grassland habitat for migratory birds.
