Project Description

Specific tasks included: 1) Build a contact database of fishing clubs, towns, rod and gun clubs, sporting groups, and other community organizations in the Project Area and reach out to them with a list of opportunities to participate in one or more elements of the Fish Lead Free program. 2) Schedule and deliver at least 8 programs about Common Loons and Fish Lead Free to contact groups in the summer of 2018 and 2019. 3) Work with contact groups to create up to 20 tackle exchange sites throughout the Project Area, targeting fishing derbies and other angler-related events as well as lake association and other community events. 4) Work with Maine Lakes Society to reach out to every active lake association in the Project Area where there are nesting Common Loons to gauge their interest in supporting a LakeSmart/ LoonSmart outreach effort with their members. 5) Work with Maine Lakes Society staff to prepare materials, advertise, recruit, and host a one-day training in the Project Area to train at least two representatives from each of at least four lake associations in the Project Area on how to evaluate properties for both LakeSmart and LoonSmart criteria. 6) Work with Maine Lakes Society to assess at least 10 homeowners in each of the four lake associations, with at least 6 of those qualifying for a LakeSmart or LoonSmart award.
