Project Description
To compensate the public for the loss of recreational uses, the Connecticut SubCouncil of the Housatonic River Natural Resource Trustees provided funding to the Housatonic Valley Association (HVA) to improve access for boating and fishing at "The Bend" of the Housatonic River in Cornwall, CT. Located south of the West Cornwall Covered Bridge, a traditional car-top boat launch was constructed on a 3-acre parcel owned by Eversource Energy along with a large parking area, bollards, gate, and kiosk for posting local information. Turfstone pavers were installed on the launch to reduce erosion and accommodate the Cornwall Fire Department's river rescue boat in the event of an emergency. Invasive plants were also removed from the trail and shoreline, and native riparian trees and shrubs were planted. The Town of Cornwall is responsible for maintaining the launch with help from HVA interns during the summer months.
